In May of 1942, Japan was able to push America out of the Philippines after a six month long battle. While most of the local currency had already been destroyed, Japan confiscated anything remaining and issued these bank notes, often referred to as "Occupation Money" or "Mickey Mouse Peso." These notes were intended to be used by the locals as currency under the rule of the Japanese Government. After the war, most of these notes were destroyed.
